Eagle "snacking" on a carp near the 6th tee.

This picture was sent to me by Dave Santoli of the resident eagle enjoying a snack. There have been many sightings and this bird is neat to see.

Irrigation work at the 2nd green is between a "rock and a hard place".

John Fleming, Pedro De La Cruz and Jerry Stockmal struggle to remove a large boulder that came out of the trench where the new irrigation line is going at the 2nd green. I guess we didn't quite realize that the soil out of the flood plain was a little rocky. Duh!

The 2nd hole will be closed from 12:00 to 3:00 for fairway aeration today.

In a effort to complete fairway aeration as soon as possible, we will aerate the 2nd fairway today. Fairway aeration is a time consuming process that needs the right weather to properly complete. On day's with rain in the forecast or very little sun we can not risk the chance of up to 2 acres of wet aeration plugs sitting on the fairway surface smothering the turf. This is the reason for aeration on all days that are conducive for this type of work.

A young pup just hanging out at three tee.

A new family has taken residence on the hill at the 3rd tee. We have seen two pups so far rolling down the steep hill in the mornings under the watchful eye of mom.

Greens aerification started this week.

Gary Farrer a 23 year employee at WVCC is starting 2013's greens aeration process. This will take 2 to 3 days depending on the weather and we are using narrower tines to make smaller holes. When putting you may see the holes but they should not effect your putt.

A new family has arrived at Whitemarsh Valley CC.

To the right of the adult fox are a couple of her pup's. This isn't a real clear picture, every time I would try to get closer they would jump back into their den. I wonder if they have cable in there?

#2 approach after grading and sodding with bentgrass.

After waiting 3 months for the right time to grade and sod #2 appoach, the time arrived and the work was done. It will take a few weeks for the new sod to root in to the ground, so for now it will be deemed ground under repair. Also, for the next week please do not walk inside the ropes on the new sod.

This is the 7th fairway on Monday April 1, 2013.

The white paint marks indicate one of the 10 divots in this small area. This portion of the fairway was used for practice and these divots could take up to a month to heal. If you see anyone practicing like this on WVCC's golf course, please remind them that the practice facility is open. This will help preserve the golf course for the rest of the members.
