Trying to speed up divot recovery on tees.

On the 12th tee (par 3) at WVCC John Fleming is finishing up filling all the divots on the tee. The divot mix is a combination of sand, organic matter, green dye and bentgrass seed. During the fall months, many divots do not have the time to heal before winter arrives.

Asst. supt. Jim Dennisson applies a granular fungicide to the tee surface. As you will see in the next photo, a turf cover is being installed to create a greenhouse effect on the tee. With the higher temperatures between the turf and the cover, this could be the perfect breeding grounds for certain winter diseases. The fungicide will help control these diseases.

It takes five employees to install a turf cover on a windy day. Once the cover is stapled down it will create an environment to hasten recovery and new seed germination in preparation for this coming golf season.

WVCC front left bunker on hole #12.

This is the left front bunker on #12. The old bunker was removed and this one is the replacement. Edging and drainage has not been done yet. The nightly snow falls and bitter am temperatures has reduced available work days during January and early February.
